Dating from 1616 and Grade II* listed, Ye Olde Gate Inne is one of the best-preserved old pubs in the county: low oak beams, worn flagstones and a big gritstone fireplace. It sits in the quiet limestone village of Brassington, south of Wirksworth, and does food alongside the ales. Worth a detour if you like a genuinely old interior.
