The Spotted Dog is a weatherboarded inn at Smarts Hill, above Penshurst, parts of it said to be fifteenth-century. The tiered terraces at the back look out across the Weald, which is the reason to come on a warm day. It does food. Ashurst station is about 3km to the south-west.
