Pontsticill Reservoir sits on the southern edge of the Beacons, its shore ringed by a circular path popular with walkers and cyclists. The Brecon Mountain Railway runs steam trains along the eastern side, so you can ride one way and walk back. Waterside and wooded, with the high tops rising beyond. Merthyr Tydfil station is about 7km to the south.
