Four acres of gardens wrap around an Elizabethan manor at Wyken, near Stanton: a knot garden, old-fashioned roses, herb and kitchen plots, a gazebo and a small maze. The estate also runs a seven-acre vineyard, a farm shop and the Leaping Hare restaurant in a 400-year-old barn, with a Saturday farmers’ market. Gardens open afternoons from Easter to late September (closed Saturdays); paid entry. Thurston station is about 8km to the south-west.
