Sudbury Hall is a Restoration mansion built by George Vernon over four decades from 1660, with a carved staircase by Edward Pierce and later work by Grinling Gibbons and the muralist Louis Laguerre. Its dark, panelled Long Gallery doubled as Pemberley’s interior in the BBC’s 1995 Pride and Prejudice. The National Trust also runs a Museum of Childhood in the old service wing, good for younger visitors. Open most of the year, ticketed, with grounds and parkland free to explore. Tutbury Castle is a short drive southeast.
