Miller Park sits beside the Ribble at the heart of Preston, laid out in 1864 by landscape designer Edward Milner on land given by cotton manufacturer Thomas Miller. Much of the digging was done by unemployed mill workers during the Lancashire Cotton Famine. Look out for the sundial, grotto and a statue of the 14th Earl of Derby among the formal beds. Free to walk in any time, with the Ribble Way running along the riverbank below.
