One of a pair of Victorian public parks above the River Ribble in Preston, Avenham Park was laid out by Edward Milner in 1861 and restored with Heritage Lottery money in the early 2000s. Free to walk in at any time, it drops from formal terraces through woodland down to a riverside path, with neighbouring Miller Park’s rose garden just beyond. Preston station is well under a kilometre away.
