Edward Milner laid out the Arboretum in 1870–72 as Lincoln’s first public park, twenty-two acres of terraces climbing the hill east of the centre. A stone lion has looked down the main walk since 1872, with cast-iron fountains, a bandstand and a folly among the listed Victorian features, all restored in the early 2000s. Free to enter, open every day, and an easy walk from Steep Hill and the cathedral.
