Hanbury Hall is a red-brick William-and-Mary house, built for the lawyer Thomas Vernon around 1706. The formal gardens were laid out by George London, the leading designer of the day, and have been recreated from his plans: a sunken parterre, a wilderness and grove, orchards, and a working brick orangery from the 1730s. Forty acres in all, now National Trust, open most of the year with a charge for non-members.
