Droitwich sits over brine seams so concentrated that the natural spring water runs around ten times saltier than the sea, rivalled only by the Dead Sea; the Romans mined salt here at a town they called Salinae. That brine is the reason for the open-air lido, where diluted salt water still lets you float. The station is a few minutes’ walk from the centre.
