Belvoir is the Duke of Rutland’s castle, a Regency-Gothic fantasy of turrets and towers built by James Wyatt between 1801 and 1832 and riding high on a ridge above the Vale of Belvoir. The grounds are the draw for gardeners: a rose garden replanted with the David Austin nursery, now holding several hundred English roses, and a Japanese Woodland of rhododendrons, magnolias and camellias grown from seed brought back from the Himalayas in the 19th century. Open on selected days; the village of Knipton sits just below. Bottesford station is about 7km north.
