Harlaxton Manor is a Jacobean-style pile built in the 1830s for Gregory Gregory, a wealthy Regency squire who piled Elizabethan and Baroque detail on with real enthusiasm. It’s been the British campus of the University of Evansville since 1971, so it isn’t a general-opening attraction, but the manor and its formal gardens — French terraces, an Italian garden, a Victorian conservatory — open to the public on a handful of ticketed open days across the year, usually around spring, summer and Christmas. Grantham station is about 3km away.
