Twelve Vale of Belvoir farmers pooled their milk in 1912 and bought the old Royal Oak pub in Long Clawson to make cheese together. The co-operative dairy that grew from it now turns out a sizeable share of the country’s Stilton. The shop on site sells the blue Stilton and other Clawson cheeses to take away, a short detour off the road down from Melton.
