Sir Walter Scott's baronial home.
Sir Walter Scott built Abbotsford between 1817 and 1825 as his romantic home on the Tweed, and its walled and formal gardens sit right against the house. You can wander the grounds and the South Court with its collection of carved stones, then stop at the café and exhibition in the visitor centre. Gardens and centre open for most of the year with an admission charge. Tweedbank, on the Borders Railway, is barely 2km away — about the handiest station-to-house link in the region.
