One of the most complete Saxon churches in England stands almost hidden among the houses of Bradford-on-Avon — tall, narrow and plainly built, most likely early in the eleventh century. For a long time nobody knew what it was; carved stone angels found over the chancel arch during repairs in 1856 gave it away. It’s open to visitors, a couple of minutes’ walk from Bradford-on-Avon station.
