The medieval rood screen at St John the Baptist carries thirty-two painted panels of saints — Gregory and Jerome, Sidwell, Catherine, George among them — one of the best sets to survive in Devon. The rest of the small Teign Valley church is fairly plain, so the screen is what you come for. Usually open in daylight hours, tucked in the lanes below Dartmoor’s north-east edge.
