Paisley Abbey began as a Cluniac priory in 1163 and grew into one of Scotland’s great medieval churches. Marjorie Bruce, daughter of Robert the Bruce, is buried here, and her son became the first Stewart king — making the abbey something of a cradle of the royal line. It’s still an active parish church, free to visit, a few minutes’ walk from Paisley Gilmour Street station.
