Places to explore in RenfrewshireScotland · Central Scotland
West of Glasgow, Renfrewshire climbs from the Clyde estuary to open moorland, the Renfrewshire Heights that make up much of Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park. Rivers like the Gryffe and Black Cart drain that high ground into the firth. The county's history is bound up with cloth: Paisley grew rich on thread and its famous woven pattern, and its medieval abbey was the cradle of the Stewart kings. William Wallace is said to have been born at nearby Elderslie. For water and birdlife there is Castle Semple Loch at Lochwinnoch, and the old weaving village of Kilbarchan keeps its looms.
