If you’re after birds and open water, Lochwinnoch is a good base. The village sits beside Castle Semple Loch, with an RSPB reserve on the water and the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park country park at Castle Semple offering boat hire and waymarked trails. Lochwinnoch station is about a kilometre away.
