Dunlop gave its name to Dunlop cheese, the mild farmhouse cheese Barbara Gilmour is credited with first making here from full-cream Ayrshire milk. It’s a tidy East Ayrshire conservation village with its own station, and the Dunlop Dairy nearby has revived the cheese. The old kirk, with its Hamilton tomb aisle, is worth a look too.
