A free country park on the edge of Kilmarnock, Dean Castle wraps formal gardens, woodland walks and a small farm around a well-preserved medieval keep. It makes an easy afternoon out, especially with kids, and the castle itself has been restored and reopened in recent years. About 2km from Kilmarnock station.
