Govan Old is best known for the Govan Stones, a collection of early-medieval carved sculpture kept inside the kirk: the Govan Sarcophagus, upright crosses and five Viking-age hogback stones, thirty monuments in all, dating from the 9th to 11th centuries. The church stands on the south bank of the Clyde, across the river from the West End. Entry is free but seasonal, generally open afternoons from April to October, with visits by arrangement out of season. Partick station is a short walk over the water.
