The cathedral of the diocese, on a low green beside the Taff where a monastic community was founded in the 6th century. The present building goes back to the 12th, but a German land mine wrecked the nave in 1941. In the rebuilding, Jacob Epstein’s aluminium Christ in Majesty was set on a great concrete arch across the nave, unveiled in 1957, and it still stops you at the door. Open daily; the restored Insole Court is nearby.
