St Fagans, on Cardiff’s western edge, is best known for the open-air National Museum of History, opened in 1948 in the grounds of an Elizabethan manor. More than forty old buildings — a farmhouse, chapel, school and workmen’s institute among them — have been rebuilt here from across Wales, and entry is free. Fairwater is the nearest station, about 3km east.
