Sandsend Beach is a long run of sand and rock pools a couple of miles up the coast from Whitby, backed by the twin ravines that shape the little village behind it. Low tide opens up the flat rock scars where fossil hunters and surfers spread out. When the tide allows you can walk all the way along the sand to Whitby, with the cafes at Sandsend waiting for afterwards. Whitby station is about 3km east.
