Trellech takes its name — “three stones” — from Harold’s Stones, a row of three leaning Bronze Age standing stones in a field on the edge of the village, the tallest more than four metres high. Once a much larger medieval town, it’s now a quiet upland place with a notable church and the holy well of St Anne nearby. Between Monmouth and Chepstow.
