Penallt is a scattered hillside village on the high ground above the Wye, with old orchards and field paths dropping through the woods to the river at Redbrook. The Boat Inn sits down by the water, reached on foot over the old railway bridge from the English bank. Penallt Old Church stands apart from the village, out on its own.
