Two old coaching inns on Stony Stratford’s high street, the Cock and the Bull, are said to be the source of the “cock-and-bull story” — travellers swapping tall tales on the Watling Street run to London. The town is part of Milton Keynes now but keeps its old coaching frontages along the road.
