Buckingham sits in a loop of the Great Ouse and was the county town before Aylesbury took the role. Around the market hill are Georgian streets and the old town gaol, a mock-castle lock-up now a small museum. The great landscape gardens at Stowe are a couple of miles north. The nearest station is a fair way off — Wolverton, about 15km north-east.
