Starbotton is a tight cluster of seventeenth-century farmhouses on the road up Wharfedale, the Wharfe running below and fells rising steep either side. A flood tore through the village in 1686 and it was largely rebuilt afterwards. The Fox & Hounds is a cosy walkers’ pub. Kettlewell and Buckden sit a mile or so down and up the dale.
