St Oswald’s stands in a bend of the River Skirfare at Arncliffe, the main village of quiet Littondale. The tower is the oldest part, 15th century, while the body of the church was rebuilt in the early 1800s. It’s a peaceful spot ringed by trees and fells. The Falcon Inn across the green is a wonderfully old-fashioned pub, still serving ale from a jug. Open daily.
