St Mary’s was rebuilt in Victorian times, but there’s been a church on the spot since 1120, when the Norman de Arches family founded one here. It stands above Kettlewell Beck in the middle of Kettlewell, a walkers’ village in upper Wharfedale on the Dales Way. A quiet stop rather than a showpiece. Open daily, and there are a couple of good pubs in the village if you’re timing a lunch around a walk.
