St Michael and All Angels, Hubberholme
J.B. Priestley called this “the smallest, pleasantest place in the world”, and his ashes are buried in the churchyard. It’s a low, ancient church tucked by the young River Wharfe at Hubberholme, where Wharfedale meets Langstrothdale. The oak pews are the work of Robert Thompson of Kilburn, so hunt for his carved “mouseman” signature in the woodwork. Open daily. The George Inn sits directly opposite if you fancy a pint by the water. A cracking little church.
