Cottages tumbling down a cliff to the sea.
Robin Hood’s Bay tumbles down a steep ravine to the sea, a maze of cobbled alleys and red-roofed cottages once thick with smugglers — local lore has contraband passing house to house through hidden passages. The rocky shore below is a well-known fossil-hunting ground for ammonites, especially after winter storms. It’s also the finishing line of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk. Ravenscar is along the cliffs to the south.
