Pembridge strings along the old Leominster–Kington road, its market square still the centre of things. A timber market hall on eight oak posts, dated to around 1520, stands in front of the 17th-century New Inn; up the lane, St Mary’s keeps its extraordinary detached bell tower — a timber-framed belfry raised on a stone base, among the earliest surviving structures of its kind in England. One of the finest of the black-and-white villages.
