Flora MacDonald, who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape after his defeat at Culloden, is buried in the old graveyard at Kilmuir, up on the Trotternish coast in Skye’s north. The village is also home to the Skye Museum of Island Life, a group of preserved thatched croft houses showing how people lived here a century or so ago. It’s on the A855 coast road, an easy stop on the loop up from Uig or round from Staffin.
