Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground

North of Monkstadt on Trotternish, a wide flat meadow marks the bed of a loch that was drained away long ago. Two slight rises in it were islands, and they carry the remains of Eilean Chaluim Chille: the stone walls of a small church, four or five feet high with a doorway and an east window, and an oval cashel — a monastic enclosure — joined to it by a low causeway. Nothing is roofed and there has been no worship here for centuries. No path, no signs, and the ground stays wet, so wear boots. Duntulm Castle is a few miles up the coast.
