Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.

A cluster of restored thatched blackhouses at Kilmuir, near Skye’s northern tip, showing how crofting families lived on the island a couple of centuries back. You can wander through the cottages and see the old tools, furniture and photographs inside. It’s out on the A855 and opens seasonally, so check dates before you go. Flora MacDonald’s grave is just up the road.
