Book-town on the edge of the Black Mountains.
Hay-on-Wye made itself the world’s first “book town” — more than twenty second-hand bookshops packed into a small market town on the Welsh border, with the literary festival it hosts each spring now the best known in Britain. It sits on the Wye at the northern edge of the Black Mountains, with Offa’s Dyke Path passing close by and Gospel Pass climbing south into the hills.
