East Markham is a conservation village ringed by old orchards near Tuxford, its houses gathered around a fine Perpendicular church with a tall west tower. By tradition the village shifted to this higher ground after the Black Death thinned the older settlement down by the church. Retford Low Level station is about 8km to the north-west.
