The Dovecote Inn is the village pub of Laxton, the last place in England still farmed on the medieval open-field system. Once a year the manorial Court Leet meets here, swearing in a jury of villagers to settle the strips across the three great fields. A whitewashed former farmhouse, it makes an unhurried lunch stop in an unusual corner of the county. Collingham is the nearest station, about 13km to the south-east.
