Clumber Park is the National Trust’s slice of the Dukeries — nearly 4,000 acres of the Duke of Newcastle’s old estate, though the great house was pulled down in the 1930s. What survives is the setting: a long serpentine lake, a walled kitchen garden that holds a National Rhubarb Collection, and the double Lime Tree Avenue, planted in 1838 and reckoned the longest of its kind in Europe at around two miles. Worksop station is about 6km off, and Welbeck lies just to the north. Walking or cycling in is free; drivers pay at the gate unless they’re National Trust members.
