Cramond is a whitewashed old fishing village on the western edge of Edinburgh, where the River Almond runs into the Firth of Forth. The Romans built a fort here, and its outline is still marked out beside Cramond Kirk. At low tide a concrete causeway leads out across the sands to Cramond Island — check the crossing times before you set off, or you can be cut off for hours. A lovely spot for a walk along the Almond or the shore.
