Chepstow guards the mouth of the Wye, and its castle — begun in 1067, one of the oldest stone castles in Britain — runs along the cliff above the river. The town keeps stretches of its medieval Port Wall and the gate that pierced it. A natural base for the lower Wye Valley, with the station a short walk from the centre.
