Boroughbridge is an old coaching town on the River Ure, its market square ringed by inns that once served travellers on the Great North Road. Just outside stand the Devil’s Arrows, three prehistoric standing stones, the tallest over 6 metres and among the biggest in Britain. Roman Aldborough is a short walk to the south. Knaresborough is the nearest station, about 11km away.
