Aldborough is a quiet green village built over the Roman town of Isurium Brigantum, the administrative centre of the Brigantes tribe. The English Heritage site here keeps two mosaic pavements lying in the ground where they were laid, along with a small museum of finds from the town. It sits just south of Boroughbridge and its Devil’s Arrows standing stones. Knaresborough is the nearest station, about 11km to the south-west.
