The Tyne Bridge is the great green steel arch that frames the Newcastle skyline, opened by King George V in 1928. It was built by Dorman Long using a progressive cantilever method first tested here and then carried over to their Sydney Harbour Bridge, which it closely resembles. You can walk across it for free between Newcastle and Gateshead, with the Quayside and BALTIC laid out below. Manors station is a few minutes’ walk on the Newcastle side.
