Escarpment with the 'finest view in England'.
James Herriot called the view from Sutton Bank “the finest view in England”, and from this steep escarpment edge above the Vale of York you can see clear across to the Pennines and the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. There’s a national park visitor centre at the top and a gliding club that’s ridden the westerly winds off the edge since the 1930s. The road up is a fierce 1-in-4 climb, with caravans banned.
