Duncombe Park is the great landscape garden of Helmsley — a broad sweep of early 18th-century grass terrace curving between an Ionic and a Tuscan temple, high above a bend of the River Rye. It surrounds a house of 1713, still the Feversham family seat. The garden and parkland open in the warmer months, though the house itself doesn’t; the surrounding parkland is a national nature reserve of ancient trees. Paid entry; Thirsk station is about 19km away.
