The Great Central Railway is the country’s only double-track heritage main line, which means you can watch full-size steam engines pass each other at speed as they once did. It runs roughly eight miles from Loughborough Central down to Leicester North, calling at Quorn & Woodhouse and Rothley, each restored to a different period. Steam and diesel days run through much of the year. Loughborough’s national-rail station is a short walk from the Central terminus.
